Diabetic ClinicDiabetes is a condition which is becoming ever more common, and there is a lot that can be done to reduce the severity of any complications from this disease. We hold diabetic clinics on Wednesday afternoons starting at 2.00 p.m. by appointment. What happens at a diabetic clinic?Rosie Maxey is our practice nurse with a special interest in the care of diabetic people. Rosie will have arranged for you to have some special blood tests at the hospital, before the clinic, to monitor your kidney function and to estimate how well your diabetes is controlled. You will need to bring a urine sample. Regular diabetic checks can help to prevent the complications of the disease She will measure your blood pressure, weight, eyesight, and perform a blood test for glucose. She will test the urine for glucose and protein and discuss the results of your home blood glucose tests or urine tests, so remember to bring your results with you. After this one of the doctors will see you and will decide on any changes to your treatment that may be needed. He will check for any problems with your feet and eyes and discuss any problems that concern you. You may be at the clinic for up to an hour. How often do I need a check? It is recommended that you have a check every 6 months. Once a year you need a check with the nurse and doctor, and in between with the nurse alone. If there are any problems you may need to be seen more often. What other checks do I need?Once a year you should have your eyes examined by a
