Immunisations for children and young people

We encourage all children and young people to complete a full course of immunisation. The first immunisations start when your baby is two months old. Normally you will receive an appointment by post to see one of our practice nurses.

Once children start school the school nursing service in State schools organises further immunisations.

Serious diseases that could be fatal or disabling in various ways have disappeared from our country and to a large extent this is due to the immunisation programme.

Many people alive now will not have had any experience of these diseases, and it is easy to forget what life used to be like when children were dying of diphtheria or were paralysed by polio.

The normal schedule in the UK is as follows

Click on the different immunisations below to find out more about the diseases.
