Ordering Repeat Prescriptions

We need two working days to prepare repeat prescriptions, and requests are taken during normal opening times Monday to Friday. If you are ordering by post you will need to allow a week.

There are four ways to order your medication.

  1. Bring in your order in person. Tick the items you require on the list you received with your previous prescription. Leave the request slip in the special box in the waiting room, or in the post box when the surgery is shut,  no need to join the queue for the desk.
  2. Fax a copy of your medication list to 0844 477 3089 with the items required marked clearly.
  3. Post your request again marking your list clearly. Allow a week if posting first class.
  4. Click here to order online

Why don't we take requests by telephone?

Easier telephone access when you really need it

Telephone requests for repeat prescriptions block the line into the surgery for quite a long time, compared for example, with requesting an appointment or a home visit. This means that it is more difficult for you to get through to the surgery in an emergency.

Greater accuracy

It is difficult for the receptionists to accurately identify which medicines you need when patients order by phone. This is because many people don't know the names of their medication. Ticking the items on the most up to date medication list that was issued with your last repeat prescription improves accuracy.

Why do we need two working days to prepare your medication?

  1. When a request is made your computer records are consulted  to see if you are due for a check up.
  2. If this is the case the doctor is asked to see if another repeat can be given before you need to be seen. Some medications  are not kept in stock and are ordered from the wholesaler.
  3. The medication is then dispensed then checked for accuracy by  a second person and finally the prescription is signed by the doctor.
  4. Problems occur if the drug is unusual and our wholesaler may need to order it from another supplier.

Pre-payment certificates

If you have to pay for your prescriptions and get more than 5 items in 4 months, or 14 in 12 months, you could save money by buying a pre-payment certificate.

Ring 0845 850 0030 to buy one over the phone using your credit/debit card.
